I have a sweet tooth and it’s problematic

What’s your favorite candy?

I’d die for any kind of gelatin candy, especially those by Haribo or Trolli, mostly the gummy worms and gummy bears. However, I would also take any brand and form as long as it is made of real gelatin. I loved eating these as a kid, and I naturally carried that over to adulthood.

I was somewhat mortified when I learned that gelatin is made from animal cartilage or bone. Most products available in our country are made of beef gelatin, which is expected for a country with a significant Muslim population. However, in recent years, I have found some products, mostly from China, made from pork gelatin, and I still eat them.

Though vegan versions of this candy are tolerable, the chewiness sometimes feels off and has a doughy consistency, which is not found in animal gelatin. My main problem is that I’m diabetic, and my stress-relieving food is usually these candies.

I haven’t tried or checked if there are sugar-free substitutes, but for now, abstinence might be my only choice.
